Holochat - Stardate 23.03.22

It’s been a bit busy

It was Darius’s birthday so Dylan isn’t here? Never mind that. Jan and Darius catch you up on some trek news, discussing the controversial New Kirk in comparison to Kirk Classic. New Holodeck-related content coming next week!

S4E4 - "Move Along Home" (DS9 S1 E10)

Attention Björn Workers

Look, this isn't a HOLODECK episode but we had to put in a bad Deep Space 9 ep. And this KINDA counts, right? All the DS9 crew gets sucked up into a 3D Chutes & Ladders game from the gamma quadrant. Can you guess which two holobois actually liked this episode?

S4E3 - "Shades of Gray" with Special Guest Marc Cooper (TNG S2 E22)

Clip shows are cool!

The holobois discuss the infamous TNG Season 2 finale that brought clip shows to the 24th century! Riker has a brain thing going on (special science correspondent Lodair helps make sense of it all) which takes him on a trip down memory lane to a few times he was on... THE HOLODECK!

S4E2 - "Threshold" with Special Guest Marc Cooper! (VOY S2 E15)

Such a boring episode!

Definitely Voyager's worst episode, "Threshold" really takes it out of the holobois as Tom Paris breaks the transwarp barrier! He's everywhere in the universe at once, which leads to some pretty spectacular science fiction ideas, like "What if a dude turned into a lizard?" This episode is so bad, Trek to the Holodeck had to bring on its science correspondent to explain the episode's worst science sins. Oh, and there's a super-mediocre and uninteresting scene on... THE HOLODECK!

S4E1 - "Code of Honor" (TNG S1 E4)

We pre-recorded the outro

In this WILD, TWISTING, brain-MELTING season premiere, the holobois watch the worst episode of Star Trek... ever? Probably! This one's full of juicy behind-the-scenes trivia, a new (but totally old) addition to the Star Trek composer pantheon, and a detailed exploration of why there aren't any bathrooms on the bridge deck of the Enterprise-D. Oh, and Tasha fights a (white) Aikido dude in... THE HOLODECK!

It's a Holoday! Skirball, Borg vs Dominion and Weekly Trek Forever?

Finally, a short one (nobody bangs)

Darius is on "holoday" this week, so the remaining holobois take a break from the hard work of watching and rating every holodeck episode EVER by touching on some important trek topics: who would win between the Borg and the Dominion? Should you go see the Trek exhibition at Skirball if you're in LA (yes, but you can't)? Are we realistically looking at a new episode of Star Trek on tv every week?!

S3E26 - "Clues" with special guest Katie Halliday! (TNG S4 E14)

"Clues" with special guest Katie Halliday! (TNG S4 E14) As in "Emmy Award-winning" Katie Halliday Katie Halliday (Emmy award-winning sound designer for Star Trek: Discovery and the upcoming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds) joins the holobois with excellent insight into sound design in the 60s, 90s and today through the lens of this excellent bottle episode where Data is a prime suspect in a Space Mystery. Plus, we get to see Picard and Guinan play a level of the Dixon Hill program on... THE HOLODECK! S3E25 - "Return of the Archons" (TOS S1 E22)

Ya'll here for the Festival?

What's there to say about this classic episode (later riffed about on Lower Decks) beyond the fact it's got some fantastic lewks for Captain Kirk and Commander Spock? The Enterprise beams down during the "Red Hour" of Beta III, a planet run by a totally-real-not-a-computer definitely not a 1960's slight at Communism being called "Landru." But mostly it's all about those cool 1800s costumes and backlot sets of what should be... THE HOLODECK!

S3E24 - "Moist Vessel" (LDS S1 E4)

Darius and Dylan Discover Wordle

The holobois go way off course on this Lower Decks episode, covering the advances in distraction technology (Wordle), Telarite pics (what's canon?!) and trap doors. Oh, and they take like 45 seconds to rate the scene where Mariner cleans out the waste from… THE HOLODECK!

S3E23 - "Galaxy’s Child" (TNG S4E16)

Geordie gaslights

In this episodes the holobois watch the second episode with Geordie and Leah Brahms, but this time it's not holo-Brahms its real life Brahms! Geordie freaks out! Oh! ... and Pert has a business communicator! All this and more on this weeks... TREK TO THE HOLODECK!
